Buttars was indicted for theft of a person from a protected class, a second-class felony, in October 2018 and pleaded guilty in May 2019 to a fourth-degree felony charge in connection to his legal services to E.H. He received a sentence to two years of community control, ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and pay $29,450 in restitution to E.H. within two years.
